Generator Leaks Fuel: Why Does It Happen and How to Solve It?

Fuel leakage of the generator is caused by cracks in fuel hoses, loose clamps, worn fuel filter seals, or deformations in the injector return line. Fuel leak both creates a fire risk and causes the engine to stop by making air.

Main Causes of Fuel Leakage in Generator

Worn or Cracked Fuel Hoses: Rubber hoses that harden over time and wear from vibration cause leakage.

Loose Glands and Clamps: Diesel leaks through the loosened connection points caused by vibration.

Fuel Filter Gasket: During filter replacement, the seal does not fit fully or age causes leakage.

Injector Return Line Failure: Blockages or fractures in the return pipes can repel the fuel out.

Fuel Pump and Tank Damages: Rust on the bottom of the tank or wear on the pump seal leaks.

How to Detect and Fix Fuel Leakage?

Visual Check: When the generator is closed, dry the entire line from the fuel tank to the engine, the filter environment and the injector bottoms with a clean cloth and determine the source of the leak.

Tighten Connections: Tighten loose clamps and fittings with appropriate torque; be careful not to over-tighten and thread.

Renew Gaskets and Hoses: Replace capillary cracked hoses and crushed gaskets with original spare parts.

Take the Air of the System: After the repair in the fuel line, drain the air of the system through the fuel machine for the engine to operate properly.

Diesel or gasoline leaks pose a direct fire hazard when in contact with the hot exhaust manifold. If the leak is in the high-pressure injector line or if the fuel pump is coming from the body, you should immediately deactivate the device and call a professional generator service.
